Abstract:

In order to achieve buy in from international funding organizations and assure structural and financial viability of a global network, diplomatic ties must be formed at many different levels, in academia, with governmental and non-governmental organizations. The Global Invasive Species Programme (GISP) was established in 1997 to address the global threats caused by invasive alien species and to help support implementation of Article 8(h) of the Convention on Biological Diversity. GISP strives to develop public education about invasive species, develop new codes of conduct for the movement of species, and design new tools for quantifying the impact of invasives. GISP is coordinating with the GISIN to promote invasive species information sharing and will help them with the development of a medium term plan of work.
